Abuse of CHILD LABOR- A Major Issue
Source- Four children rescued from suspected bonded labor in Mangalore | The News Minute
When we ask the main issues occurring in India, we generally talk about poverty, unemployment and many more. Do you know, as a result these main conflicts arise the Abuse of CHILD LABOR! Abuse of child labor in India is a crucial issue, impacting the overall development of the country. According to the Save the Children campaign in 2016, there are about 8.3 million child laborers in India and this figure is indeed growing till the date due to Covid-lockdown and other factors included. Moreover, I experienced a real-life situation of abuse. This happened on 06-09-2021 when I was standing near a metro station waiting for my friend as we were heading for the college together and I saw a child selling pens for 10 bucks. Then, he came to me and asked-
“Bhaiya, would you like to buy a pen from me I am selling it for 10 rupees.” My heart melted while looking at his innocent face and I asked out why are you selling pens in the metro station? For a moment he was quiet and went pale but then with a hesitating voice he replied. After what he said made me numb. He told me that there is no one in his family to earn whatever dad does, only for himself he never gives his family a penny and spends all of that in gambling and drugs. Therefore, he said my mother adjured me to sell these pens. I told him that it's not the time to roam and wander on streets selling pens, instead he should be going to school and studying. He replied- “Bhaiya I know I shouldn’t be doing it; my school are starting from 8th September and would leave all this from then.” He told me that he himself has a great zeal to study in school after the reopening of school. At the end of the conversation, I bought a pen from him and handed him 10 rupees (he smiled while taking the money and left).
Abuse of Child Labor is not just an Economical cause but also affecting people socially & mentally. The Government should bring out the necessary rules and regulations to stop it from taking over the country's youth.

Child labor is a topic that has been talked for ages but your blog made me more sensitive towards this issue than ever. Social issues always had my inclination and I hope you continue to write and sensitize the public through itπ
ReplyDeleteLike divyanshu mentioned in his blog about poverty being the disease which has no antidote i believe we can say same for child labor. child labor is talk of the town from ages and still after so much effort from the government and public as well there is still no solution. I think poverty and child labor go hand in hand and to eliminate child labor we first have to eliminate Poverty First.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really important topic to discuss. We don't normally pay attention to these kids, yet some of them may have a strong desire to learn but are unable to do it. Such children have a special place in my heart. I wish we, the country's citizens, as well as the government, could do something to help them.
ReplyDeleteThe topic you've chosen for your blog is quite sensitive and different from others. But I must say that you have describe the picture of their life, struggles and zeal to learn in a very incredible way. I personally thought that their are very few number of people who bothered to ask these kids that why they are doing these jobs and motivate them to focus on there studies.
ReplyDeleteVery well done.

This is indeed a very delicate topic and i totally agree with you that government should take some measures to solve this problem. And its really good to know that you motivated that kid to go to school and also helped him by buying his pen :)
ReplyDeleteChildren are meant to have fun and learn but even after all these years child labor still exists. A sensitive topic I must say Chetanya. Well written!
ReplyDeleteWhen i read the title and hear your experience, it reminds me of the story " Lost spring- stories of stollen childhood" by Anees Jung.
ReplyDeleteI feel children are future citizens of the nation and their adequate development should be utmost priority of the country.
Very well written CR sir! π―
